Finnish wild but functional KUULA + JYLHÄ shoes. Based in Finland, handmade in Finland. Kuula + Jylhä is a collaboration between a textile designer and a shoe designer, Essi Kuula and Marika Jylhä. Started in 2011, their small series and unique pieces always bring lightness to life. Beware the power of KUULA + JYLHÄ shoes – who can resist?
About KUULA + JYLHÄ shoes
Pure fun of design; where quality meets playfulness. Created by two creative experimental minds. KUULA + JYLHÄ shoes are mostly formed by paper, leather and wood.
Lighthearted 2011 collection
KUULA + JYLHÄ Lighthearted 2011 collection plays with forms, colours and structure. It was inspired by Finnish culture; the deep-rooted handcraft tradition. Materials such as coloured leather and birch wood were used mainly because of the natural ability to form shape and the sustainability.
Until All I Felt Was My Heart Beating 2012 collection
The 2012 “Until All I Felt Was My Heart Beating” collection is a simple yet beautiful playful sculptural shoe collection that deals with purity, authenticity, sensitivity, delicate roughness and directness. It makes me think of Sexy and sculptural shoes by designer Victoria Spruce. There are a total of 5 pairs of handmade shoes in the collection created for the Modern hippies in the post-ironic scenarios – until all the designer felt was her heart beating. Materials used are mostly white leather mixed with a little bit of orange and yellow. Partly raw and partly polished Finnish aspen and birch wood are used for the heel.
Some wild mint spiced up the collection. So cool!
